BigCommerce is looking for a Software Engineer II (Scala) for the Storefront team! This growing team needs an engineer with a strong technical background who will focus on improving the performance, reliability and features of our Storefront Platform. We use technologies like Scala, gRPC, service mesh, Docker to build one of the fastest and most reliable ecommerce platforms in the world.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build highly-available, redundant and scalable distributed systems
  • Write code that is performant, maintainable, clear and concise
  • Work closely with operations while building and scaling back-end services
  • Collaborate with product and design to support an optimal user experience
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain and improve quality
  • Build new features with a focus on extensibility and quality

Who You Are:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Software Engineer in a JVM language
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, SW, CE or MIS; or equivalent experience/completed a comprehensive software engineering boot camp
  • Scala or Akka experience is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with Cloud Computing (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, etc.) desirable
  • Understanding of the functional programming paradigm with reactive design patterns
  • Experience in highly scalable service-oriented architectures
  • Solid Unix knowledge
  • Write clear, concise and maintainable code that you are proud of, and you are committed to keeping code quality high
  • Knowledgeable on modern technologies and tools, and passionate about finding the right tools and patterns for the job
  • An excellent communicator, you can explain not just your ideas, but the reasons behind them - in person, over Slack or email, or in a code review
  • Enjoy your work and hold yourself accountable for results
  • Don't hesitate to ask for help and are always ready to provide help to team members when needed
